The interface between engineered materials and biological systems governs the success of emerging technologies in nanomedicine, diagnostics, regenerative engineering, and biomanufacturing. Integrating approaches from materials science, nanotechnology, and biomedical engineering, Wang Lab at the University of Notre Dame is elucidating the biochemical and biophysical mechanisms underlying these interactions. The ultimate goal is to leverage this understanding to innovate advanced therapeutic and diagnostic platforms.

Central to our research program is a multidisciplinary strategy that spans the design and synthesis of functional nanomaterials, the development of physiologically relevant in vitro models, and the application of computational and analytical tools for mechanistic insights. This integrated approach enables a system-level view of the interactions between engineered materials with biomolecules, cells and tissues, informing the rational design of next-generation biomedical technologies.
